2024 SANY SY235H Crawler Excavator

Today I inspected this SANY SY235H at the supplier’s factory. First, I checked the engine compartment. Modern Chinese excavators no longer emit smoke like they used to. The engine was very clean and started smoothly.The engine bay has typical dust layer found on a working machine, but after turning off surrounded by the mounting flange of the main hydraulic pump there was no oil film, no wet spots, just that dry grit found on everything a dusty site, but checking the main pump again because of some discolouration on the mounting flange, this turned out to be old dried mud and not the weep, and that’s good. Hoses still have the spiral wrap in place, there is no cracking in the rubber on the hoses around the hard bends that tend to fail first, clamps are tight and it doesn’t appear there is any corrosion other than surface oxidation on the fittings on metal lines radiating off the main valve bank.

Undercarriage is solid. The entire unit is original factory-installed. Cardboard signs were pasted on the floor, seemingly to keep the interior clean for easy resale. The metal parts of the control levers didn’t show the shiny wear often seen after over 2000 hours of use. However, I suspect the latter, as there didn’t appear to be any modifications. The weather was cold during the inspection, so I couldn’t read the operating temperature, but there was rust on the exhaust pipe, suggesting it had been stored for some time. This isn’t a major issue, just indicating it wasn’t used daily.Scrob has a Dragon decal on the counterweight which is peeling on one corner but if the ship is factory the paint work is and there aren’t resprayed panels or frame cracks any of which I could spot just around the pivot pin or the boom foot. Tear up pocket inside door, check operator’s manual is in the pocket inside the door. Swing motor has no oil, travel motors are dry, main pump does not have weepage at the oil seal. On the condition of buying this for a rental fleet I would run it, but for a minimum of 20 minutes to see how it was under load, and then do some type of hydraulic sample.
