2017 Volvo EC140DL Crawler Excavator

Today I was inspecting this Volvo EC140DL near an open field and the first thing to strike me was somebody had repainted the boom and arm in this dark olive-grey (not factory) and there had been some work done on it at some point (probably where the boom rubbed against something, or perhaps after some surface wear to the boom, the main body panels remain original yellow and are fine, just the usual scratches on the counterweight where it’s rubbed and some streaks where paint has rubbed from what it’s bumped into onto the boom and arm). It was actually the chinese-market fitment yuchai engine inside the car with a teal valve cover, turbo on the right, label on the valve cover I could only see the spec rows printed on—when I opened it up, all the surfaces were only old dust, not oily or weeping and the banjo fittings were crusty but not weeping or oily.

The 2nd item I went through was the hydraulic systems and the cab. Hose bundle terminated on the back of the upper frame has eight to ten high pressure lines going down to the upper end of the main control valve block zone and every jacket I could see was fine, no cracks or soft spots, this bay was full of dust and oil would be visible (dark) against the dust regardless of how “old” it is. Pump casing dry. Field repainted rails on cab are red. I had to call the guy out of the cab by tapping on the window as guy had his thermos on the hard-top and a bag of sunflower seeds on the dash and didn’t seem to be in any real hurry. Inside of cab looking dusty, seats wear, dust/dirt that covers floor mat, hour meter not readable from the outside.It is on undercarriage that one must put their focus. These are still steel shoe type with still in good condition rubber pads, and I’d say in the 40to 50 percent range with a few pads beginning to show signs of edge delamination, but not yet an issue. Surface rust on track links, no elongated pins seen from this visit, no missing shoes, no broken track links, sag appears to be normal, front idler buried in mud – not possible to assess seals from this visit. The same is true about the travel motor seals and bottom rollers, completely encased with dirt, if anyone can give you a proper wear number on these, it will be after a pressure wash. Upon my arrival, machine was running, and digging was in progress.
