2018 Caterpillar 320 Crawler Excavator

The place where we are testing the machine today is a construction site.This cat 320 excavator, mud everywhere, had to kick a lot of mud off the tracks to check underneath them, when fired up the engine sounds clean and there is no smoke being vented, the valve cover and injector lines are tight but there is a bit of rust around the exhaust manifold and the turbo housing, nothing crazy, just a bit of surface rust from it being exposed out there, it’s been rained on a few times since. the sprocket and idler teeth have some wear but I can’t tell any percentage because everything was caked in mud, would need to jet wash it to get a proper look at track wear before it could be called a final inspection. the swing bearing area is caked with mud, no real obvious cracks in the ring gear teeth that i’m able to see at this time but again, not a final inspection without a hosing down.

Hydraulics, most of this area was pretty original look, the hose coiled on the back of the turntable is braided and in good shape with no fraying; the wiring harness has a few tape repair points but no connectors that are giving away themselves for now; fuel injection pump and lines are all dry, there is no weeping anywhere I applied pressure, this has definitely been outdoors its entire life.On this group, I didn’t get good photos of interior so can’t say dirty or clean – will need to get more photos before I sign off on that portion – again, my fault, not the machines. There’s paint off around the door, and the counter weight corner to the rear is scratched up and there’s even a dent on the back left panel. This is as if it was used around the house and not in a showroom. Still plastic wrapped on counter weight cover, a little odd for a used machine but doesn’t say anything regarding mechanical condition.  Machine digs well from what what I saw the operator. No boom or arm pins play evidence by hand and upon visual inspection, while it was cycling. The fins in the cooling pack up front are filled with dust, would like to have it cleaned out before the summer heat becomes a problem or it’ll run hot.
