2018 Volvo EC380 Crawler Excavator

First, check the engine of this Volvo EC380 , some treat yourself to a food cart right next to it so mind your paws so you don’t park behind it . the engine looks reasonably clean, no oil on the block – the coolant tank has fluid in it, red oil cap is in place – no fat soot but low to mid-range for this size and has been well treated in 341 hours according to the hobbs meter (I’ve pulled that myself!) The engine is generally dry (but not dusty) in the engine area.

I tried side hydraulic out, main control valve block (no oil around the block), center swivel (no oil around the swivel), pump flange on left bay (no damp rings around it), all around the hose wrapping is fine, no cracking or bulging, but I noticed besides, where I could, up to now, there was no fresh oil, no wet ring near any keeping fitting I reached, but I’ve now looked at the pump area a second time and there was no oil anywhere — it’s old grime and dust packed in there. Seals are holding. Both idlers are dry and there is no seal weep, both sprockets looks fine. Track shoes should have about 90% to 95% remaining life — they should not be over worn. The tips of the blunted grooves should not be sharp, there should not be any sharp edges left anywhere along the run. Some surface rust where the paint has worn off is seen as crusts in sections where there is not any structural issues, simply cosmetic by just being stuck outdoors in a yard. If the outer appears to look tight, there will be no elongation and chain slack is ok. Packing the mud heavily on both alternator idler and sprocket housings – bearing clear-up problem and not a mechanical problem. Upper body of paint consisting of mostly holding; boom and arm black paint is good and no portion of the cutting edge of the bucket needs replacement prior to work. Machine is level and there was no hyd. drift detectable when standing around the machine. Overall – it was used but not abused – the hours were telling me the truth.
