Today at a demo site, one of them walked this machine which I assume is an excavator, one of the yellow paint jobs, as it would be fading on the boom arms but its normal when they sit in the yard somewhere, its probably mid size class excavator, SANY SY485H with the glass in the cab is clean, so someone must be using it, and not just sitting somewhere with it in the yard. Started up nicely with no smoke, assisted with cycling of boom and bucket and no cylinder jerks or failures of movement on a machine this size – from where I stood all looked fine and didn’t crawl under with the pry bar as the ground was all dirt and broken concrete around my parts all week and I’m still feeling the effects. The boom reach appears to be in good state for the class, 2 piece articulated, the counter weight still has SANY on it, so it has not been over beaten on rock work and the bucket still carries all its teeth – nothing fancy – just a standard digging bucket.
There is alot of mud caked in there as well making it very difficult to tell wear, but some of the chain is worn around the sprocket teeth and a couple of the track pads are missing or cracked and you can see daylight through them. Rust is common on the surface of the rollers and idlers, but don’t show any guys with rollers that are stuck etc. Leaks around latches, clutches or sheathes checked. We didn’t see any dripping, but I did look around the pump area again to be sure, and looked dry. All hoses as per hydraulic were black, no cracking or weeping at hoses or fittings, work light was functioning on top of the cab, and what appears to be a camera mount, no broken mirrors, handrails installed. Not smoking. Pins are tight. About the only thing on the SY485H Pro that needs attention soon is the tracks – engine and hydraulic service are good; which is the real drawback is replacing the tracks on a 48-ton machine is not necessarily cheap! So, apart from the Operator’s manual in the seat pocket and a water bottle, there weren’t a lot of wrappers around except those with a water bottle.

Found a used KOMATSU PC 350 on here, after 3 weeks non stop continuous operation on site, engine temperature stayed normal all the time. That machine takes so much beating on our rocky ground, no issues at all. Exactly the tough workhorse we needed.
