2021 Hitachi ZAXIS360H Crawler Excavator

When I arrived, the operator had already started the Hitachi ZAXIS360H excavator. The excavator was running smoothly without any interruptions, and the engine was running normally. The hybrid model is a ZAXIS360H but, in all honesty, as far as I can tell the engine part of the model straps along just as it would on any other Hitachi that I have worked on—dessert-priced turbo spins up, no strange noises from the pump, quick hydraulics when cycling boom and stick. The tracks are in excellent mechanical condition, approximately 90-95% of shoe is still on track, sprockets are not chewed up and rollers roll freely as I did not see any seized rollers on this size machine, which is a surprise. I had the operator do 360 of the swing bearing – it looks tight and there is no play in any of those bolts and they’re all bolted down properly.The chassis frame was very clean, indicating that the staff had done a thorough cleaning before the inspection, making the whole machine look very clean and tidy.

Lifted the hood and fiddled around—the one thing that wasn’t on my notes was that it didn’t have any new oil on the block, and hoses were all okay, clamps were all tight, there were no cracks in the intercooler pipes. I didn’t find any of the normal amount of seals crying, or the kind of scummy looking coating you see when something has been leaking for a long time before someone’s been running the machine down for inspection. No real complaints with swing motors – dry, pins on boom and stick all good but not in a “replace now” kinda state. It was cloudy my entire time there, so lighting isn’t ideal, but I did have a flashlight, the track frame and everything else is solid. No ‘cracks’ no ‘bodge welds’. Due to the wear using the meter, and the tightness of all parts I would hazard a guess that this is not quite a machine that has been worked heavily. Engine sounds good. Hydraulics aren’t hunting/surging. No smoking. Pins are tight. Overall, this excavator performs exceptionally well.
