2025 CAT 340D2L Crawler Excavator

I recently visited this rather large site again, arranged by the manager of Brandt Tractor Ltd. This one was CAT 340D2L sitting in a yard of iron with all of the company markings on the boom and hood, showing that it has been used in Japan prior to coming here! When I arrived access to the engine was already available so I did some poking around the hydraulics before I assessed others—pump appeared to be good, CAT 1R-1808 oil filter installed, hoses had no cracks or excessive weepage of new oil. Definitely not active, swing motor housing had some old staining – surface dirt mixed with what leaked months ago. Twice – light was not optimal, but I couldn’t find any wet spots on the hydraulic lines/pump seals, etc.

The excavator’s tracks and chassis have been very well maintained, and even the paint has been repainted.Tracks are maybe 85/90 percent remaining on the pads. Surprisingly Cabin is clean inside (Black operators chair isn’t torn to shreds, rubber and good floor mat, even the windows are clear that you don’t see very often on a machine of this age, etc.) Controls are not discolored, there are no cracks and the CAT warning decals are still legible. This is OK, Bucket has dried mud caked on the sharp side and inside, as this is to be expected as he hasn’t just been sitting pretty, he has been digging soil. The paint is the standard CAT yellow & black with some slight overspray that can be seen around the hydraulic stuff under the hood; that means that someone did some work on it at some point before (hopefully covering scratches). Finishes on the upper level including vertical exhaust stack with no smoke moment to be seen.  Clean hydraulic lines.
