2018 CAT 349D2 Large Crawler Excavator

The machine CAT 349D2 is about what’s expected from a machine that has been working the sites in Japan for a while, engine bay is decent, no smoking on start up and oil filter is a genuine cat part (not some knock-off after market crap somebody had put in). I saw some stain around the base of the pump housing and I was initially concerned – but no, I looked and relooked and respotted it lightly, and nothing came out of it after 10 minutes idling… the stain added up is just that old dust and grime baked on. There is some surface rust on hose clamps but that is cosmetic and does not involve weeping out of the hose clamp fittings. It was drizzling throughout some of the “rain” seemed to be sitting on the paint, I had to towel it before I classified it as a leak, before I saw it.

Seat has one of those wooden bead cushion covers — it was tossed on the seat but backing is intact with no rips. Nothing is mushy moving side to side with the joysticks and the detents feel normal. Floor mats and pedals are not gunky with dried in mud and dash is not dusty like it hasn’t been wiped down in weeks. The boom has a REGA sticker, there is some japanese writing on the side panel, I’m assuming this was the previous owners as well and the inspection sticker on the cab door looks like it’s not so old.  When standing out here in the field, I could only get a dirty shoe read on percentage of wear, so until I pressure-wash the undercarriage and put some calipers on the shoes, I wouldn’t stand out there and take a read, and that is just for under the car and shoes are packed with dirt and mud.Boom and arm move smooth with no jerking on cylinder, no scoring on any rods as evident within line of sight. The Bucket will be dirty, but no cracks on the cutting edge as far as I can tell, the pins are tight and there is no excess play at linkage points, the cat engine sound solid at idle and under light load, the exhaust pipe and coupling appear factory, no patch jobs. However, some manipulation of the hose lines is found within hydraulic manifold block which has a troupe of hose lines assembly into it, all original routing thus far, no zip tying or liquor store bandaging of any hose lines for that matter anywhere I have looked. Grilles are in good shape, no dents pushed into the grill. Overall nothing structurally to be concerned about, just needs a bath and it’s possible somebody should re-check that pump housing after a full work cycle just to be safe, the rest runs fine and digs fine out of the few cycles I ran it through. Buyer should make pre-assessment of the under carriage before committing as I couldn’t get any numbers accurate today with all that mud in-placed.
