2018 SDLG E6250F Crawler Excavator

Sun was on pretty full steam and I had to scrub my face getting the labels on the filters. SDLG E6250F (volvo inline 6) Engine looks okay (all grease nipples are in place and in good condition) No weeping from valve cover gasket, coolant bottles are in place and capped, surface rust on starter/alternator housing and this is normal for a machine outside, no sign of engine problems. Started her up in the head – no visual blow by issues, no packing of soot around exhaust stack other than normal carbon, exhaust hose appears good. At first glance the pump appears to be dry as well (fittings are a mix of JIC and BSP; some green around the brass is most likely age not failure and hose sheathing is intact with no braid exposure seen).

But it’s the swing motor pants area which is where I too slacked. There’s a bit of white mineral deposit around the motor fittings which shows you that there’s been some weeping there at some time – it may be ancient or it may be still going slowly – you can’t tell unless the weep holes get wiped out and the motor is put on and run for an hour and the weep holes are looked at again. The larger item is the swivel joint base in the center of the frame, oil staining is around the base, but not condensation—hydraulic oil and needs to be checked prior to anyone writing a check. If it’s just the swivel seal – it’s still a fix – but less expensive.As for as I could tell in the photos there was no breakage of the sprocket teeth which were by the way hooked and pointed on this machine, and track shoes were flat bar type with the grouser height down, but again that is good for a machine this size. If Bucket has no teeth, and a cutting edge that is rubbed down so it’s basically flat, it’s time for that to be dealt with before you start using it or you will simply be pushing dirt around. I have a paint peel on some panels of the body and the counterweight is rusted on the surface, and the left and right side panels got some damage, but it’s all visual trivia, nothing to do with the operation of the machine.  The end result — machine works fine. Swivel leaks. Clean it up, do some negotiations for the undercarriage and bucket and you will have a functional one!
