2020 Doosan DX420LC-9C Crawler Excavator

I test drove a Doosan DX420LC-9C, equipped with a Scania engine, The oil had been changed and there were no leaks: valve covers are clean, no weeping around head gasket seam, fresh oil in filler opening on oil filter, no surface rust on the exhaust manifold (but as these engines do heat cycle, it’s just likely to have accumulated heat stains, not a problem), the problem was the oil filter housing has that slick, dark film that it’s no new oil staining, or more old seepage staining baked solid from the years of dust and heat, yeah it wasn’t dripping or wet pooling it didn’t seem to be so I wouldn’t flag it as a “live leak” right now without an hour of running the machine and a pressure wash.

Undercarriage — bit rounded on the tip, and the tread is very shallow, I would say only about 50 to 55 percent left on the grousers, the machine has definitely been getting regular shifts, a dark stain on track frame, near the final drive which is one thing I would like to see cleaned and looked at in this budget — could be the sweating of the final drive seal, could be the grease going past the tension adjuster nipple — can’t tell from the photographs without hosing it down first, so if you are considering putting this machine hard into ground, check that final drive seal first. Tight correct track links, no broken track rollers or bottom rollers and no stretched track links. Oh and there’s yellow tape wound around the grip on the right joystick (cracked / chewed up the OEM grip — minor, but significant nonetheless, as to how many hours were put in with that person’s hands on this controller. Seat cover is aftermarket 1/2″ woven torn on head rest, no concept of the foam under the cover.Dirty cab, dirty working machine (mud on floor mat, dirt on bottom panels, there’s a plastic bag with remnants of someone’s lunch sitting on the cab step and that wasn’t for anything related to the inspection, it was just that they made me step around it twice. ohhh, let me just look through the engine bay photos quick. yeh, the fuel filter sticker is dated 2023 so at least someone at some point ran a service, that counts for something. Cooling pack seems as good as it gets, radiator fins are dirty, but not crooked or gooped, fluid is in the expansion tank and there are no huge cracks in any hoses. Two batteries and a disconnect switch – available and accessible. Hoses in the lower bay are eaton WINNER brand which are aftermarket hoses, NOT factory, but also NOT junk! Even though the photos do not show hours, the buyer should retrieve that meter reading in person, prior to entering into a contract.
